- Litchfield was founded in 1958 by the president of Goodyear Company, Paul Weeks Litchfield. It began as a Jr. High school in Gadsden, Alabama consisting of grades 6-8. In 1975, it was converted into a high school, grades 9-12. In the years of 2005-2006, Litchfield was closed down under the condition of being combined with Gadsden High and Emma Sansom High, which was being converted to Gadsden City High School. Cory Middle School was then moved into the former high school building and named, again, Litchfield Middle School, grades 6-8. Now, It still remains as Litchfield Middle School. Cory Middle School's gym is now used as a Boys And Girls Club Activity Center.
